Practice areas
A small number of areas, addressed in depth. The work below describes the practice as it is, not as a wishlist.
Trade Remedies
Trade remedies are the legal instruments by which Pakistani industry seeks protection from injurious imports, administered by the National Tariff Commission under three distinct statutory regimes — one for dumped imports, one for subsidised imports, and one for sudden import surges. Each has its own procedure, evidentiary standard and appellate route.
Trade Dispute Resolution
The Trade Dispute Resolution Act, 2022 and the Rules made under it in 2026 have created a statutory forum for cross-border commercial disputes between Pakistani parties and their foreign counterparts, with jurisdiction from USD 5,000 and a staged procedure running through negotiation, conciliation, arbitration and determination.
Customs & Import-Export Regulation
Customs liability turns on classification, valuation and the concessions claimed — determinations made at the border and repeated on every consignment. We advise on classification and valuation disputes, refund claims, adjudication and the full appellate structure through to reference before the High Court.
Industrial Regulatory Compliance
For industrialists in Karachi, and particularly within the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate, the regulatory environment is dense and constantly shifting. Plot allotment, lease and mutation, building approvals, environmental clearances, factory licensing and labour compliance each sit with a different authority.
Competition Law
The Competition Act, 2010 governs abuse of dominant position, prohibited agreements, deceptive marketing and merger control, with penalties assessed against turnover. We advise on Commission proceedings, merger clearance, exemptions and compliance review.
Corporate & Commercial Advisory
Company law, commercial contracting, intellectual property and regulatory compliance for trading enterprises — the foundations on which a business either holds together under scrutiny or does not.
We also advise on selected matters in tax, civil and commercial litigation, rent, and service law, particularly where they intersect with our core practice. Where a matter falls outside what we can do well, we say so, and we maintain working relationships with specialist counsel to whom such matters can be referred.
